“Nigeria’s Volunteer Teachers Boost Liberia’s Education Sector, GOL Extols Partnership”

Monrovia, Liberia – The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Education, has expressed its appreciation to the People and Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for their valuable support in assigning volunteer teachers to Liberia, thereby strengthening the Liberian education sector. Liberia welcomed a new batch of 12 volunteer classroom teachers from Nigeria on October 27th, in addition to the first group that had already arrived.

Minister of Education, Prof. Ansu Sonii, acknowledged this collaboration as highly significant in fostering the robust relationship between the two African nations. He expressed optimism that this support will significantly contribute to the development of the education sector in Liberia.

The Minister also emphasized the crucial roles these Nigerian volunteer teachers play in Liberia’s national development. He conveyed Liberia’s gratitude to Nigeria for the cordial relationship that continues to thrive between the two countries. These volunteer teachers, sponsored by the Nigerian Government, are set to be assigned to various counties, including Nimba, Grand Cape Mount, Grand Bassa, and Lofa.

The Nigerian Embassy Representative, Minir Ibrahim, described this assignment as a call to national duty. He urged the volunteers to uphold high professional, ethical, and law-abiding standards while following the Ministry’s rules and guidelines. He assured the Liberian Government of the preparedness of these volunteers to make a meaningful contribution, further solidifying the bilateral relations between Nigeria and Liberia. These volunteers, who have qualifications ranging from Bachelor’s to Master’s degrees, represent a significant initiative fostering educational cooperation and mutual benefit between the two nations.
