Monrovia, Liberia – In a remarkable display of progress and leadership, Liberia has earned widespread recognition for its commitment to youth empowerment, regional collaboration, and global diplomacy. The Regional Leadership of the Mano River Union Youth Parliament (MRUYP) through its Spokesperson Hon. Herbert B. Bangura in a Press conference highlighted Liberia’s significant strides in fostering youth inclusion and peacebuilding while positioning itself as a leader within the Mano River Union (MRU) and beyond.
A major highlight was the appointment of the Speaker of the MRU Youth Parliament Liberia Chapter to the President’s National Youth Advisory Council by President Joseph N. Boakai, Sr. This groundbreaking decision reflects the government’s acknowledgment of the critical role young leaders play in shaping the country’s future. By incorporating youth perspectives into high-level decision-making, Liberia is setting a powerful precedent for its regional counterparts in Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Côte d’Ivoire.
In another testament to Liberia’s growing influence, the MRU Youth Parliament announced the country as the host for its upcoming 4th Regional Parliamentary Session. This designation underscores the confidence of regional leaders in Liberia’s dedication to fostering peace, stability, and unity. Hosting this prestigious event further cements Liberia’s reputation as a beacon of progress within the MRU.
On the global stage, Liberia’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2026-2027 term has received robust support from the MRU Youth Parliament. Liberia’s rich history of peacebuilding and its leadership within the region make it a formidable candidate for this global role. Notably, the Speaker of Liberia’s MRU Youth Parliament Chapter has been appointed to the steering committee for the bid, underscoring the country’s strategic approach to global diplomacy.
Liberia’s commitment to youth development was also celebrated, particularly its role in transformative initiatives like the Liberia Digital Transformation Project. This program trained over 11,000 young Liberians in essential digital skills, equipping them to thrive in a technology-driven world. Additionally, the country’s active participation in the Conflict Prevention Leadership Program (CPLP) and peacebuilding dialogues across key counties has reinforced its dedication to fostering resilient and harmonious communities.
The MRU Youth Parliament commended the Liberian government for its unwavering budgetary support to youth-led initiatives, which have significantly contributed to national peacebuilding and stability. These achievements reflect a shared vision of empowering young people to lead while promoting unity and democracy across the region.
Liberia’s continued leadership and achievements in youth empowerment, peacebuilding, and global engagement are a source of inspiration for the Mano River Union region and beyond. As the country prepares to host the regional parliamentary session and advances its bid for the UN Security Council, Liberia stands as a testament to the transformative power of inclusive governance and collaboration.
