Monrovia City Corporation Announces Monrovia Day Celebrations

Monrovia, Liberia – The Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) has officially announced the schedule for this year’s Monrovia Day Celebrations, set to take place from February 12 to February 16, 2025. The annual event aims to celebrate the city’s cultural vibrancy, foster community engagement, and envision a brighter future for Monrovia under the theme, “The Monrovia We Want.”

According to the MCC, the weeklong activities will commence on February 12 with a Monrovia Day Parade starting at 7 AM from Randall and Broad Streets and culminating at Monrovia City Hall, where a Monrovia Day Festival will take place from 10 AM to 5 PM. The festival will showcase cultural dance, traditional food, and historical performances.

On February 13, a Monrovia Roundtable will be hosted at Monrovia City Hall, where Mayor John Charuk Siafa will lead discussions with local and international business and community leaders. The forum will focus on opportunities, challenges, and strategies for Monrovia’s future development.

A day of intercessory prayer will be held at the Benson Street Mosque on February 14, led by Muslim clerics, starting at 9 AM.

February 15 will mark Monrovia Environment and Sports Day, featuring a symbolic tree planting event led by Liberia’s Vice President Jeremiah Koung, alongside Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr and environmental activists. The event will also include the launch of the “THINK GREEN, ACT CLEAN” environmental campaign and a series of community athletic competitions, including a disabled exhibition match at Invincible Park.

The celebrations will conclude on February 16 with a Christian Intercessory Prayer at Providence Baptist Church, followed by the Mayor’s Ball at Monrovia City Hall at 6 PM, celebrating the city’s achievements and future aspirations.

Mayor John Charuk Siafa emphasized that Monrovia Day is an opportunity for residents to unite, celebrate their heritage, and actively work toward shaping the city’s future.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to participate in the celebrations and share their vision for “The Monrovia We Want.”
