The Mayor of the Monrovia City Government John Siaffa have committed to the salaries payment of the aggrieved contractors Seven Months salaries owed them on or before June 5, 2024 as negotiations with the Ministry of finance have being concluded.
It can be recalled on early Monday morning July 1, 2024, aggrieved contractors of the Monrovia city Government took to the streets, setting a road blocks on the UN Drive, as a means of demanding for seven months salaries and arrears owed them by the government.
In response, the MCC Boss said protestors who were seen protesting in demand of their Seven Months salaries arrears; their concerns were looked into and the city Government is committed to settling their salaries before Friday June 5, 2024.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with The people’s News in central Monrovia on Tuesday June 2, 2024, Mayor Siafa disclosed that about 281 workers of the MCC were wrongly classified by the previous government as consultants.
“consultants are not people who are in the street sweeping” Mayor John Charuk Siafa asserted
The mayor further narrated that when the Unity Party-led government took over , there were contemporary holds on consultancies and the hiring of consultants automatically on the GOL payroll, salaries were reportedly suspended because they were wrongly classified not by him but his predecessor. He noted that they’ve been engaging the CSA for an amicable solution to the problem.
