Liberia: Senate Gives Greenlight to Seven of Pres. Boakai’s appointees

Capitol Hill, Monrovia–Seven candidates out of president Boakai’s nominees have been unanimously confirmed by the Liberian Senate’s plenary after relevant Standing Committee reports were received.

Elwood T. Nettey, Comptroller and Accountant General, Ministry of Finance and Development-Planning, and Bill Jones, Deputy Finance Minister for Administration, were among those confirmed to their various positions on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.

The other three are Tanneh G. Brunson, Deputy Finance Minister for Budget and Development Planning; Dehpue Y. Zuo, Deputy Finance Minister for Economic Management Planning; and Anthony G. Myers, Deputy Finance Minister for Fiscal Affairs.

All 28 senators present voted in support of the nominations of the newly nominated people, who will now be confirmed as per the recommendations of the Senate Committee on Ways, Means, Finance, and Budget, which is chaired by Bong County Senator Price K. Moye.

Col. Gregory Coleman, Inspector General of the Liberia National Police (LNP), and Col. Abraham S. Kromah, Director of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), were also confirmed by the plenary at the same time.

Sam Gaye was unanimously approved by the group to serve as the Executive Protection Service (EPS) director.

Additionally, the Senate Committee on Defense, Security, Intelligence, and Veteran Affairs, chaired by Senator Momo T. Cyrus of Lofa County, recommended their confirmations.

In the meantime, Jeremiah Kpan Koung, the Vice President of Liberia and President of the Senate, has directed the Secretary-General of the body to formally inform the President of the Republic of the most recent decisions.
