Monrovia, Liberia- Race for the Deputy Speakership gets intense as Bong District six Representative Moima Briggs Mensah declares her intention to Contest.
As Lawmaker prepares to setup leadership for the 55th legislature, a female Representative of district six in Central Liberia, Moima Briggs Mensah has openly declared her intent to contest as deputy speaker comes January 15, 2024. The winners of the upcoming leadership elections will lead the august body for the next six years.
Rep. Mensah made the disclosure during a press conference at her Capitol Building office in Monrovia. According to her, the step is to bridge the gap of woman underrepresentation in the Assembly. She furthered that her extensive experience in different capacities underscores her qualifications for the position of Deputy Speaker. Madam Mensah has also, urged her kinsmen and women in Bong County to engage with their colleagues in a unifying manner, transcending political divisions for the benefit of the county.
If successful in her quest for the 55th legislature Deputy Speaker Post, Madam Mensah will serve as the first female deputy speaker since the inception of the position.
Mensah is a member of the African Parliamentarian Union and the inter-parliamentarian Union. She also serves on committees such as the State Owned Enterprise Committee, Investment and Concession Committee, and the Executive Committee at the Lower House of the Liberian Parliament.
The district Sir female legislator currently serves as the Chairperson of the Bong Legislative Caucus, Co-chair of International Women Caucus, and the co-chair of the Posts and Telecommunications Committee, among other roles. if she succeed, Rep. Briggs Mensah will break the band to become as the first female deputy speaker in the house of representatives.
