Monrovia, Liberia – In a proactive move ahead of the Mandatory Member State Audit by the International Maritime Organization, the Liberia Maritime Authority (LMA) has activated all monitoring workstations at the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center located at the Coast Guard Base on Bushrod Island.

Under the direction of Commissioner/CEO Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe Sr., the team has made significant upgrades to enhance operational efficiency.

Recent installations include new computers and flat-screen monitors, complete with backup systems to ensure continuous functionality. Major furnishing upgrades have also been completed to facilitate a more effective working environment.

This weekend, the LMA team plans to install a new transformer and implement grounding works to guarantee uninterrupted power supply, crucial for the upcoming audit. Additionally, they are preparing for the arrival of new GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) equipment from the international registry, which is expected to enhance emergency response capabilities.

The LMA is also focusing on preparations for the Port State Control Offices in the Port of Monrovia and Buchanan, emphasizing the importance of achieving a successful audit outcome. “We must make a resounding pass in the audit as we are one of the global leaders in the maritime sphere,” said Cllr. Lighe.
