Monrovia, Liberia – The Government of Liberia has officially approved a visa waiver for citizens of the Republic of Rwanda, strengthening bilateral ties and regional cooperation between the two African nations.
Yoong to a communication issued by Elijah F. Rufus, Commissioner-General of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), the waiver stems from a reciprocal agreement signed on September 10, 2025, between the Liberian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Governent of Rwanda.
The arrangement establishes a Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation and a Reciprocal Visa Waiver between both countries, allowing Rwandan citizens to travel in and out of Liberia without prior visa requirements.
“The Visa Reciprocity Regime will qualify citizens of the Republic of Rwanda to travel in and out of Liberia without the previous visa requirements,” the communication stated.
Commissioner-General Rufus directed all LIS officers stationed across Liberia’s air, land, and sea borders to implement the new policy immediately. Officers are instructed to issue entry stamps to all Rwandan travelers as part of the facilitation measures.
The LIS further expressed appreciation to its officers for their continued dedication, emphasizing distinction, honesty, and integrity in the execution of their duties under this new directive.
This policy marks another step in Liberia’s efforts to enhance intra-African mobility and economic cooperation, aligning with the broader goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and regional integration.
Diplomatic observers say the agreement could boost trade, tourism, and investment opportunities between Liberia and Rwanda, while also promoting stronger political and cultural relations.
