The Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) and the Liberia National Police (LNP), has announced a decisive crackdown on the unauthorized sale and distribution of petroleum products in makeshift containers. In a press release, the Ministry declared that effective January 15, 2025, selling gasoline and diesel in mayonnaise jars, jerry cans, and other unsuitable containers will be prohibited nationwide.

This bold move comes in response to the alarming rise in unsafe handling of flammable substances across Liberia. Authorities have expressed concern over the threats these practices pose to public safety, particularly in densely populated communities and along major highways. Violators risk arrest, confiscation of goods, and legal action under the Public Safety Law of Liberia.

The directive also requires all tankers transporting fuel to distribute only to government-approved filling stations. The Ministry has warned against non-compliance and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property.

With this landmark ban on the horizon, Liberians are urged to adopt safer practices and report any violations to ensure a safer environment for all.
