The United States Ambassador to Liberia, Mark Toner, has issued a stern warning to Liberians considering illegal immigration, declaring, “Don’t risk your future.” In an official statement from the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia, Ambassador Toner said too many Liberians overstay their visas or use fraud to enter the United States, making Liberia one of the countries with the highest U.S. visa overstay rates.

He made it clear that under President Trump, U.S. immigration laws are being strictly enforced. Anyone caught entering illegally, lying on visa applications, or remaining in the country without permission will face serious punishment—including jail time, deportation, and permanent visa bans.

Ambassador Toner also urged Liberians to warn family and friends already living in the U.S. illegally to return before they are arrested or deported.

He noted that criminal networks, smugglers, and traffickers often prey on illegal migrants, making the journey not only illegal but life-threatening.

The crackdown is already showing results: U.S. authorities report a 94 percent drop in border crossings this year and a 627 percent rise in arrests inside the country.

Additionally, foreign officials who do not help stop illegal immigration may face visa restrictions themselves, including immigration, customs, and port authority workers.

The Ambassador’s final message was clear: “Make the right choice, follow the law, and do not risk your safety, your family, or your future.”
