Monrovia, Liberia – The Inspector General of the Liberia National Police (LNP), Gregory O.W. Coleman, has confirmed the deployment of the force’s intelligence unit to monitor the lifestyle of emerging Hipco artist J Rap, following public outrage over a controversial lyric in his latest track, “Woman Can Grow.”

Appearing as a guest on Prime FM in Monrovia, IG Coleman acknowledged numerous complaints from the public regarding a line in the song where J Rap claims he’s “playing with 13-year-old girls like he’s checking USD.” The statement, which has gone viral, has sparked widespread criticism and concern among citizens.

“The statement is deeply concerning,” Coleman said. “We are investigating the matter, but also looking at the context in which it was said. We need to approach this with care, both in terms of protecting potential victims and understanding the broader societal issues reflected in the lyrics.”

He further stated that while many are calling for harsh actions against the rapper, the lyrics may also be a reflection of a larger crisis affecting Liberia’s youth and societal values.

The Inspector General emphasized that the intelligence department is tasked with identifying whether J Rap’s lyrics have any real-world victims. However, he was also cautious about not infringing on artistic freedom. he said he do not want to suppress creativity or silence artists, but there’s a line between expression and exploitation.

J Rap, a rising Hipco rapper who recently collaborated with established artist Barsee, is under intense scrutiny since the release of “Woman Can Grow.”  Despite his open apology, the song has been widely condemned for glamorizing inappropriate relationships with underage girls.

As the investigation continues, the LNP urges the public to remain calm and allow due process while also reflecting on the deeper societal issues that the controversy has brought to light.
