The Vice President of the West Africa Bar Association (WABA) and Secretary General of the Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA) and Bornor M. Varmah, born on May 22, 1971, in Bopolu City, Gbarpolu County, is a prominent Liberian lawyer with over a decade of dedicated service to the legal profession.

Since beginning his practice in 2010, Bornor has become a key figure in advancing legal frameworks and governance reforms in Liberia. His ability to navigate complex legal issues while managing conflicting priorities has positioned him as a trusted advisor and consultant in various high-profile projects.

In 2022, Bornor served as the National Legal Consultant for WINROCK International, where he led the Enforcement Training Program for judges, magistrates, and public defense lawyers, addressing critical issues such as forced labor and trafficking in persons. His tenure as the National Secretary General of the Liberian National Bar Association further solidified his leadership role, where he is effectively managing the Secretariat and promoting the interests of the legal community.

Additionally, as a National Legal Consultant for the UNDP’s Rule of Law Programme, he developed a five-year strategic plan for the Liberia National Commission on Small Arms, highlighting his strategic vision and commitment to national security.

Bornor’s extensive legal expertise is backed by academic accomplishments, including a Master of Laws in International Trade Law from the University of Turin (2019) and multiple certifications in rule of law and governance.

His role as Senior Policy Analyst at the Governance Commission since 2014 has allowed him to lead significant governance reforms and enhance legal frameworks across various ministries and agencies.

Bornor’s commitment to justice is also evident in his previous work with the Ministry of Justice, where he coordinated efforts to reduce pre-trial detention rates and enhance legal processes related to sexual and gender-based violence. His involvement in international and regional initiatives, including the ECOWAS Committee of Experts, underscores his dedication to fostering dialogue and collaboration on labor and social security issues in West Africa.
