Monrovia, Liberia – The Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS, will hold a week-long outreach programme and legal clinic in Liberia from November 10–16, 2025, aimed at deepening citizens’ understanding of the Court’s mandate, accessibility, and impact across the sub-region.
Led by the Honourable President of the Court, Justice Ricardo Cláudio Monteiro Gonçalves, the high-powered delegation will engage government officials, members of the judiciary, lawyers, law students, and the general public through interactive sessions, presentations, and legal advisory clinics.
The outreach, part of activities marking ECOWAS’ 50th anniversary, seeks to increase the Court’s visibility and empower citizens to take ownership of the regional justice system by learning how to access it and benefit from its jurisprudence.
The programme will kick off with a courtesy visit to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and other senior officials, followed by a town hall meeting at the Ministerial Complex on November 12. A dedicated forum for lawyers and law students is scheduled for November 13 at the University of Liberia Auditorium, while a special judicial dialogue between Liberian judges and ECOWAS Court justices will also take place.
The public legal clinic, open to all citizens seeking information or legal guidance on the Court, will run from November 14–15 at the Ministerial Complex. Media engagements and a press conference will complement the sensitization drive.
Similar outreach events have been successfully held in other ECOWAS member states, including Ghana, Senegal, Benin, Togo, and Nigeria. Following the Liberia event, the Court’s delegation will continue its regional engagement in Lomé, Togo, from November 16–22, 2025.
Established under Articles 6 and 15 of the ECOWAS Revised Treaty, the Community Court of Justice serves four key functions — interpreting and applying Community laws, adjudicating administrative disputes involving ECOWAS officials, serving as an arbitration body, and protecting human rights across the sub-region.
