Public concern over alleged corruption and the misuse of national resources has prompted growing calls for the Assets Recovery Team of Liberia to widen its investigations, with citizens urging a probe into the wealth and investments of former Finance Minister Amara Konneh, who served under President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

Civic discussions and social media reports have highlighted Mr. Konneh’s alleged investments in agricultural lands across Liberia, rumored to be worth around one billion U.S. dollars, sparking debate over whether these assets were lawfully acquired.

While Mr. Konneh has publicly denied any wrongdoing—asserting that his wealth stems from legitimate business ventures and professional earnings—many Liberians, including civil society groups, continue to call for a transparent and impartial investigation to uphold accountability, reinforce public trust, and strengthen ongoing national efforts to recover any misappropriated state assets.
