Former Solicitor General Cllr. Nyenati Tuan and Former National Security Advisor to President Weah Jefferson Karmoh Arrested; Tweh Others on the Run

Monrovia, Liberia – In a crucial consequence, former Solicitor General Cllr. Nyenati Tuan has been arrested as well as Jefferson Karmoh on the orders of the Monrovia City Court. This arrest is part of a comprehensive investigation into allegations of economic sabotage, theft, and illegal disbursement of public funds.

The investigation, spearheaded by the Ministry of Justice and the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), has also implicated several high-ranking officials, including former Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Samuel D. Tweh.

Cllr. Tuan, along with other key figures such as former Comptroller of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) D. Moses P. Cooper, former Director General of the Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) Stanley Ford, and former National Security Advisor Jefferson Karmoh, faces serious charges. These include economic sabotage, theft of property, criminal facilitation, and criminal conspiracy.

The charges stem from an alleged scheme to defraud the government of Liberia. According to the writ of arrest, the defendants conspired to illegally transfer funds from the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) to the operational accounts of the FIA. The funds, amounting to L$1,055,152,540.00 and US$500,000.00, were reportedly withdrawn and converted for personal use.

Presiding over the case, Magistrate L. Ben Barco denied a motion for personal recognizance for Cllr. Tuan and Cooper, urging their lawyers to file a proper criminal appearance bond. The broader crackdown on corruption underscores the Liberian government’s commitment to maintaining economic stability and integrity.
