LNP Provides Reasons for Police Shooting Protesters in Cape Mount Kinjor Protest

MONROVIA–The Liberian National Police’s Professional Standard Department launched an inquiry into the February Kinjor demonstration, and found that the police had to use force to disperse rioters because they were being attacked by violent protestors.

The Professional Standards Department suggests that “all the officers who admitted discharging their weapons, namely Chief Superintendents Clinton Morris, Spencer Tamba, Ezekiel Doe, and Marcus Zorleh, are exonerated for discharging their assigned firearm.”

This is because the group of agitators who turned into rioters were firing single-barrel shotguns, breaking the last barricade, and throwing stones and sticks, putting the police in immediate danger of dying or suffering serious injuries.

The Bea Mountain Mining Corporation area was rocked by fatal protests between February 27 and 29, when Grand Cape Mount County locals demanded that the corporation adhere to the terms of its concession agreement.
