Liberia: GOL Issues Early Warning for Windstorm, Flood and Coastal Erosion

Monrovia, Liberia_ The government of Liberia through the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) has issued what they considered as early warning against windstorm, flood and coastal erosion.

The head of the NDMA Mr. Ansu V. S. Dulleh Sr, during MICAT regular Press Briefing on Thursday disclosed that the alert is in line with the “World Bank Group Climate Risk Profile -2024 for Liberia and Quote”; predicting that rainfall pattern this year will increase extremely which will be accompanied by windstorm, flood impacts, agricultural yields, disease outbreaks, and critical infrastructure for water, sanitation and hygiene which may lead to human injuries and the loss of lives.

Mr. Dulleh attributed that vulnerable communities along the Coast of Liberia are advised to be on their alert for coastal erosion as a result of the rising sea levels.
“Based on scientific information, it’s predicted that over 100,000 persons are expected to fall prey to flood, windstorm and coastal erosion this year, with over 60% getting affected in coastal counties especially from the east north and western interiors” he noted.

The team according to its executive director, will move across the counties to insure awareness and preparedness against the predicted hazards.
