Monrovia, Liberia – Liberia’s state prosecutors secured convictions in 77 of the 99 criminal cases that went to trial during the May 2026 Term of Court, according to data released Friday by the Ministry of Justice.
The figures show 11 cases ended in acquittals and 11 others resulted in hung juries, meaning no verdict was reached.
The Ministry said the outcome reflects ongoing work by prosecutors across the country. It also used the release to commend its lawyers for their performance during the term and urged them to “remain steadfast” in their duties.
A 77% conviction rate marks a notable performance for a single term, though the 22 cases that did not result in convictions point to continued challenges in securing unanimous jury decisions.
The Ministry did not provide details on the categories of crimes tried, the counties involved, or how the May term compares to previous terms.
Justice Minister Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh currently heads the Ministry.
