Monrovia, – In a decisive move to address allegations of payroll padding, the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs has dismissed three senior employees following the results of an investigation led by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC). The inquiry, which delved into the misuse of public funds under the Supplementary Payroll scheme, has now prompted swift corrective actions within the Ministry.
According to a statement from the Ministry, the dismissals come after a comprehensive review of the LACC’s findings, which included interviews, statements from key witnesses, and an audit of financial records. The individuals dismissed are Mr. Lamine Sharpe, Director of Budget/Finance; Atty. Harry B. Sando, Financial Comptroller; and Mr. Mohammed S. Kromah, Assistant Minister for Human Resources. These officials were implicated in violating government regulations, which led to the misappropriation of state funds.
However, not all employees were found guilty. In a surprising turn, Mr. James Y. Tolker, the Deputy Financial Controller, was cleared of any involvement in the fraudulent activities and has been reinstated to his position.
The Ministry emphasized that these actions reflect its commitment to upholding transparency, good governance, and the protection of public resources. The dismissals are part of a broader effort to reinforce accountability within government institutions and prevent similar incidents in the future.
“Liberia’s public trust is non-negotiable, and any abuse of office will be met with swift and decisive action,” said a senior official from the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs. “Reforms are underway, and we remain steadfast in our mission to safeguard the country’s resources and ensure ethical conduct at all levels of government.”
As the Ministry of State continues to address the fallout from the payroll padding scandal, the government is implementing additional safeguards to strengthen oversight mechanisms and reduce the risk of future misuse of public funds.
