Margibi County — The victim of Friday’s tragic motor accident along the Robertfield Highway near the RIA has been identified as Elvis M. Clinton, the Deputy Coach of the Margibi County Kickball Team, plunging the county’s sports community into deep mourning.
Clinton was traveling to the SKD Gymnasium in Paynesville City for Margibi’s scheduled kickball match against Sinoe County when the fatal crash occurred early Friday morning. Following confirmation of his death, match officials immediately postponed the game in respect for the fallen coach.
Eyewitnesses say the accident happened when a yellow taxi, bearing plate number TX-10669, attempted to overtake a truck while approaching a curve on the busy RIA Road. In the process, the taxi reportedly crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a motorcycle.
The violent impact killed Clinton instantly at the scene, while another person was left critically injured and rushed to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment. Onlookers described a heartbreaking scene, with many in tears as they realized a life had been lost.
Adding to public outrage, the taxi driver reportedly fled the scene immediately after the crash. Authorities are now conducting a manhunt and have launched an investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Elvis M. Clinton was widely respected for his dedication to sports development in Margibi County, especially for mentoring young kickball players and promoting discipline through athletics.
What was supposed to be a routine journey to a sporting event has now turned into a tragic reminder of the dangers on Liberia’s highways — and a painful loss for a county that has lost one of its own.
