A potentially dangerous fire incident early Sunday morning at the Lonestar Cell/MTN head office in Monrovia was swiftly brought under control, preventing what could have been a serious disruption to Liberia’s largest telecommunications provider.
According to initial information, the blaze began in an outside waiting area on the company’s premises—an area not frequently used by staff or customers. Lonestar Cell/MTN’s Deputy CEO and Head of Corporate Affairs, Ali Fakih, confirmed that the fire did not reach the main building, nor did it affect operational equipment, network infrastructure, or offices.
In an official statement issued by the company, management expressed relief that no injuries were reported and praised the rapid, coordinated response from employees, security personnel, the Liberia National Fire Service, and the Liberia National Police. “The fire was quickly contained and did not reach our main buildings or affect any operational equipment or network infrastructure,” the statement noted.
The company emphasized that authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire and assured full cooperation with the probe.
Lonestar Cell/MTN extended deep appreciation to staff members who rushed to the scene—even those who came straight from Sunday church services or left family commitments—to support the emergency response. “Your presence, solidarity, and willingness to step forward in a moment of need means more than words can express,” the company said.
The fire service, commended for its professionalism and swift action, prevented the flames from spreading beyond the perimeter area. Eyewitnesses reported that smoke was detected shortly after dawn, prompting a rapid deployment of firefighters who brought the situation under control within minutes.
The telecommunications giant reassured millions of subscribers that all services—including voice, data, and Mobile Money—remained fully operational and entirely unaffected throughout the incident. Network systems, data infrastructure, customer support platforms, and mobile financial services operated seamlessly.
Lonestar Cell/MTN reaffirmed its commitment to staff safety and continuous service delivery, stating: “We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of our people, and to the continuity of our operations. Thank you for your continued trust and support.”
No casualties were reported, and normal activities at the headquarters have since resumed.
