Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has returned from a significant diplomatic mission in Rome and the Vatican, where he engaged in pivotal discussions aimed at enhancing Liberia’s international standing and fostering agricultural development.

Invited by the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), President Boakai delivered a keynote address at the World Food Forum Summit on October 14. In his speech, he unveiled the ARREST Agenda, emphasizing Liberia’s commitment to increasing food production and ensuring food security through global collaboration.

During his visit, the President held a bilateral meeting with the FAO Director-General, reaffirming a mutual commitment to the “Liberians Feed Yourselves” initiative, which seeks to enhance local food production and promote self-sufficiency.

A highlight of the trip was an audience with His Holiness Pope Francis at the Vatican, where the President acknowledged the Catholic Church’s vital contributions to Liberia’s education, healthcare, and human rights sectors. This meeting underscored the enduring diplomatic ties between Liberia and the Holy See, established in 1927.

In Rome, President Boakai also engaged with leaders from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Italian government, and private sector investors. These dialogues focused on attracting investment to bolster Liberia’s agricultural and infrastructural sectors, crucial for economic growth.

Reflecting on his journey, President Boakai noted a warm reception and constructive dialogues that have bolstered Liberia’s credibility on the global stage. He highlighted the ongoing support for key projects, including a $700 million hydro expansion and solar power initiative, which signal a growing confidence from international financiers.

The President emphasized the necessity of unity and stability for Liberia’s development, urging collaboration among the Legislature, media, and the public to maintain progress and uphold values of transparency, peace, and democracy.

“The world is watching, and Liberia is once again respected among the community of nations,” he stated. “Together, we can build a new inclusive society that uplifts every Liberian.”

As Liberia moves forward, President Boakai’s international engagements signal a promising future, one characterized by enhanced agricultural capabilities and strengthened global partnerships.
