By The People News Online

Sinkor, Monrovia — Liberia’s National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP) has earned another international spotlight as its Director General, Mr. Dewitt VonBallmoos, has been elected Chairman of the Technical Commission on Contribution Collection and Compliance of the International Social Security Association (ISSA) for a three-year term.

The election, which took place recently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, brought together global social security leaders to review and strengthen international best practices in social protection and contribution management.

The Technical Commission on Contribution Collection and Compliance — one of ISSA’s most strategic organs — oversees matters relating to social security funding sources, ensuring sustainability, compliance, and efficient administration. It also examines key macroeconomic, operational, and technical issues affecting contribution collection systems worldwide.

VonBallmoos’ election is being hailed as a milestone not only for NASSCORP but also for Liberia’s growing recognition within the global social security community.

A Growing Legacy of Institutional Leadership

Under VonBallmoos’ leadership, NASSCORP has transformed into one of Liberia’s most credible and efficiently managed public institutions. The corporation has expanded coverage, modernized its contribution collection systems, and prioritized transparency and innovation in service delivery.

Established in 1975, NASSCORP is mandated to administer Liberia’s social security programs, providing protection to workers and their dependents against loss of income due to old age, employment injury, or death. Over the years, the institution has played a critical role in strengthening Liberia’s social protection framework and building public confidence in state-run insurance systems.

VonBallmoos’ elevation to the ISSA Commission is therefore seen as an international endorsement of NASSCORP’s progress and reform under his tenure.

International Recognition and Responsibility

As Chairman of the Technical Commission, VonBallmoos will lead global deliberations on improving contribution compliance, addressing employer obligations, and exploring innovative funding mechanisms to sustain social protection programs.

His role will also involve coordinating expertise across continents, promoting peer learning, and advancing policy frameworks that ensure social security institutions remain financially resilient in a rapidly changing global economy.

Boost for Liberia’s Image

Observers say the election reflects Liberia’s growing reputation for professional excellence within international institutions. “It’s a testament to Liberia’s commitment to transparency, reform, and capacity building in public service,” a NASSCORP official said following the announcement.

The International Social Security Association (ISSA), headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, is the world’s leading international organization for social security institutions, government departments, and agencies. It promotes dynamic social security systems through standards, research, and international cooperation.

VonBallmoos’ leadership role will cover the 2025–2028 period — a tenure expected to focus on improving compliance systems and enhancing sustainability in social security funding globally.

His election adds to a growing list of Liberian professionals making meaningful contributions to international governance and reform — and signals another proud moment for Liberia on the world stage.
