The Speaker of the Mano River Union Youth Parliament Liberia Chapter, Daniel Nama Nills, has announced the launch of a comprehensive nationwide youth mapping exercise aimed at updating its database of youth organizations actively engaged in peacebuilding, advocacy, and related civic initiatives across Liberia.

Making the disclosure at a news conference in Monrovia on Monday, May 26, 2025, Speaker Nills described the initiative as a vital undertaking to identify, connect, and empower youth-led groups, fostering greater collaboration and impact in national development efforts. The exercise will run for two weeks, beginning Monday, May 28, 2025, through Monday, June 9, 2025.

The mapping exercise is a crucial step toward strengthening the collective voice and capacity of Liberian youth in the areas of peacebuilding and security. It aims to qualify them to participate in youth-related elections, coordinate efforts, identify gaps, and provide targeted support to organizations dedicated to peace, justice, and community development, he added.

The MRUYP Liberia Chapter also provided an update on the MRUYP-LC Youth Promotion Initiative, an ongoing effort geared toward promoting peace through digital literacy. The initiative continues to equip the youth population with essential digital skills, empowering them to become informed and responsible digital citizens, and enabling them to utilize technology as a tool for peace advocacy, constructive dialogue, and sustainable development within their communities.

Meanwhile, the MRUYP Liberia Chapter has endorsed Liberia’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. The youthful body believes that Liberia’s unique post-conflict experience and steadfast commitment to peace and regional stability make it an ideal candidate to contribute meaningfully to global peace and security discussions.

The parliament believes that Liberia has demonstrated remarkable resilience and a deep understanding of the complexities of peacebuilding, and that its voice on the UN Security Council would be invaluable in advocating for preventive diplomacy, inclusive peace processes, and the critical role of youth in conflict resolution globally.
