Monrovia, Liberia – The Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE) has strongly condemned the remarks made by Dr. Robtel Neajai Pailey during Liberia’s 177th National Independence Day celebration. Dr. Pailey, who served as the orator for the event, made statements that MOVEE has described as “insensitive, undiplomatic, and unfounded accusations” against the Government and people of the United States of America.
Speaking at a major press conference in Paynesville, MOVEE Acting National chairman Mr. Prince G. Mehn expressed its disappointment with Dr. Pailey’s speech, stating that her comments were not only inappropriate for such a significant national occasion but also lacked the diplomatic tact expected from a speaker of her stature. The party emphasized that the United States has been a longstanding ally of Liberia, providing substantial support and aid over the years to various sectors covering the Security, Judiciary and Educational sectors amongst others.
MOVEE’s statement highlighted the importance of maintaining strong international relations and cautioned against rhetoric that could potentially harm Liberia’s diplomatic ties. The party called for a more respectful and constructive approach to addressing any grievances or concerns regarding international partnerships.
MOVEE acting Chairman further alleged that the Boakai-Koung administration is proceeding wrongly stating that they are in solidarity with a press statement issued by the former ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) under the signature of its National Chairman, Atty. Janga Kowo.
Dr. Pailey, a noted scholar and activist, has yet to respond to MOVEE’s criticisms. Her speech, which touched on various socio-political issues, has sparked a broader debate within the country about the role of public discourse in shaping Liberia’s future.
As the nation reflects on its independence, the controversy surrounding Dr. Pailey’s remarks serves as a reminder of the delicate balance required in diplomatic communications.
