Monrovia – As political tension builds ahead of the Senatorial By-Election in Nimba County, the Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA) has issued a compelling call to action for citizens to participate peacefully and responsibly, in strict adherence to Liberian law.

In a strongly-worded press release, the LNBA emphasized the importance of civic duty in strengthening Liberia’s democratic fabric. The association encouraged eligible voters to exercise their rights without fear or coercion, and praised the National Elections Commission (NEC) for its commitment to a credible electoral process.

However, the Bar flagged several challenges threatening the integrity of the upcoming election, including:

Limited voter education in remote areas of Nimba County;

Logistical and administrative inefficiencies undermining public confidence;

Heightened political tension and potential security threats requiring urgent mitigation.

“The people of Nimba must be allowed to freely exercise their democratic and civic responsibilities without the infusion of conflict, intimidation, or coercion,” the LNBA stated.

The Bar Association cautioned against anti-democratic interference and warned that any attempt to destabilize the peace or undermine the election could trigger both local and international sanctions.

Calling on political actors, candidates, and community leaders to uphold the rule of law, the LNBA reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to preserving peace, democracy, and legal order in Liberia.

“We stand ready to support efforts that ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election in Nimba County,” concluded LNBA President Cllr. Bornor M. Varmah.

The eyes of the nation and the international community—will surely be watching as Nimba heads to the polls.
