Liberia’s National Amputee Football Team risks being barred from the 2026 Amputee World Cup in Mexico if it does not settle a remaining $2,000 debt by Saturday. Federation President Samuel Tengbeh cautioned that missing the deadline would cause the International Amputee Football Federation to deem Liberia unready for the event and remove the squad from the competition. Overall participation expenses are around $9,000, part of which has already been paid through installments.
The federation is making an urgent plea to the Liberian government, aid groups, and private donors to cover the shortfall and avoid what leaders described as a humiliating exit for a team with an accomplished record. The squad has claimed three Amputee Africa Cup of Nations championships, played in the Amputee World Cup final versus Turkey, and finished as runners-up multiple times in African tournaments.
