The Ministry of National Defense and the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) have announced a significant donation of over $20 million in logistics equipment from the African Union (AU).
This donation marks a substantial advancement in enhancing the operational capabilities of the AFL, thereby strengthening both national security and regional stability across West Africa.
This achievement is the result of extensive diplomatic efforts initiated in 2018 by Brigadier General Davidson F. Forleh, currently the Chief of Staff of the AFL. His advocacy led to Liberia’s selection for this critical support, with the equipment originally donated by the Chinese government and stored at the AU Continental Logistics Base in Douala, Cameroon.
The logistics package includes essential assets such as cargo trucks, armored personnel carriers, combat jeeps, and other critical equipment, totaling $20,601,529.46. This donation will significantly enhance the AFL’s capacity for troop transportation, field operations, disaster relief, and international peacekeeping missions.
Brigadier General Forleh expressed gratitude for the AU’s support, highlighting its importance for Liberia’s sovereignty and international peacekeeping efforts.
Minister of National Defense Brigadier General Geraldine J. George commended the collaborative efforts that made this milestone possible.
AFL representatives will travel to Cameroon to inspect the equipment before it is shipped to Liberia within two months.
This partnership reinforces Liberia’s commitment to regional security and ongoing collaboration with international partners, as the AFL continues to enhance its capabilities for a safer West Africa.
