Liberia: Justice Minister Frank Musa Dean Charged With Contempt in Gloria Musu Scott and Three Others Trial

Monrovia, Liberia- Judge Rooservert Willie of Criminal Court A accuses Justice Minister Cllr. Frank Musa Dean of contempt of court for allegedly neglecting to submit a report in the case of former Chief Justice Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott.

Within the former Chief Justice’s sentencing hearing on Thursday, Judge Willie informed the court that the Ministry of Justice’s probation officer had been given instructions to investigate the four defendants and provide a report by January 4, 2024, at the latest, because the twelve-member jury panel had found Cllr. Scott and four other family members convicted on December 21, 2023.

According to his instructions to the probation officer, the court has not received the investigative report from the probation officers until the day of the hearing, he stated.

Judge Willie, however, stated that the probation officer called the court and told them that the ministry of justice has not been able to obtain the funds for him to carry out the inquiry since he received the order on December 27, 2023.

Not only is it insulting, but the Ministry of Justice, led by Cllr. Frank Musu Dean, has indicated that the resident judge of Court ‘A’ finds it offensive that his order has been disregarded.

Additionally, he directed the court clerk to issue a writ of contempt against Justice Minister Cllr. Dean and the Director of Probation, requiring them to appear and provide justification for not being found in contempt of court.
The contempt hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, January 5, 2024 at 10:30 AM on the grounds of the Temple of Justice, according to report.
