Monrovia, – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has reaffirmed Liberia’s push for stronger economic ties with South Africa, highlighting investment, technology transfer and capacity building as key areas for new cooperation.
The President made the remarks Tuesday at the Executive Mansion when he received Letters of Credence from Her Excellency Nocawe Noncedo Mafu, South Africa’s new Ambassador to Liberia.
President Boakai said Liberia and South Africa have enjoyed cordial relations since January 1997, built on Pan-Africanism, African solidarity and mutual respect. He noted Liberia’s historic pride in standing with South Africa against apartheid.
“As my Government advances the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, we look forward to greater engagement with South Africa in promoting investment, technology transfer, institutional capacity building and economic opportunities that will benefit our peoples,” President Boakai said.
Ambassador Mafu, in response, praised Liberia’s historic role in the anti-apartheid struggle, recalling Liberia’s challenge to apartheid at the International Court of Justice as a defining moment of solidarity that continues to anchor bilateral relations.
The presentation of credentials marks a new chapter in Liberia-South Africa relations, with both sides signaling interest in moving beyond diplomatic goodwill to economic partnership.
