Justice Ministry Confirms Suicide in Death of Boulevard Place Hotel Manager After Autopsy Report

By: The People News Online

‎The Ministry of Justice has formally concluded that the death of Anwar Futloo, former Manager of the Boulevard Place Hotel in Monrovia, was the result of suicide, following an autopsy conducted nearly a year after the incident. The disclosure was made in an official press release issued on December 3, 2025.

‎According to the ministry, the autopsy was requested in connection with what authorities initially considered an alleged suicide, prompting calls for a forensic examination to clarify the cause of death. The autopsy was performed on January 7, 2025 by state pathologist Dr. Benedict Kolee at the St. Moses Funeral Parlours on Somalia Drive.

‎The procedure was carried out in the presence of family members of the deceased, law enforcement officials and mortuary personnel — a measure the ministry says was intended to ensure credibility and transparency in a case that had drawn public curiosity and quiet speculation.

‎The Ministry of Justice reports that the autopsy findings indicate the death was “unnatural” but consistent with actions of a self-inflicted nature. The statement further notes that forensic interpretation supported the conclusion that Mr. Futloo died by suicide.

‎Authorities said the ministry’s determination is based solely on the scientific findings of the autopsy. “Relying upon the result of the autopsy conducted,” the press release states, “the Ministry of Justice hereby informs the public that Mr. Futloo died of suicide.”

‎With the autopsy results now public, the ministry says the matter is officially considered closed. However, officials leave room for potential reopening should compelling new information surface. “The matter is now considered close unless new information compel further investigation,” the statement adds.

‎The death of Mr. Futloo had lingered without an official forensic conclusion for months, prompting questions from observers about the pace of the investigation. The ministry’s latest announcement is intended to settle doubts about the circumstances surrounding the incident, though it remains unclear whether the family or independent observers will seek additional clarification.

‎The release was signed by Jutonu Y. Kollie, Director of Press and Public Affairs at the Ministry of Justice.
