The Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) submitted its long-awaited findings on the tragic Kinjor Shooting Incident to Justice Minister Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. The investigation into the February 2024 incident, which left three dead and several injured in Grand Cape Mount County, has been a critical test of Liberia’s commitment to justice and accountability.

“This investigation underscores our dedication to transparency and upholding the rule of law,” said CCRB Chairman and outgoing President of the Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA), Cllr. D. Sylvester Rennie. He summarized the findings, highlighting comprehensive interviews with law enforcement, local residents, and victims’ families, alongside site visits and stakeholder consultations.

Cllr. Rennie also used the occasion to call for greater support for the CCRB. “We urge the Ministry of Justice to ensure that the Board is included in the national budget. Adequate resources are essential for timely and thorough investigations,” he emphasized.

Justice Minister Tweh praised the CCRB’s meticulous efforts. “Your work reflects our shared vision of justice. I assure you that the findings and recommendations will be implemented to hold those responsible accountable,” he said. Tweh further emphasized the need for a budgetary allocation for the Board, calling its role “cardinal to the government and its citizens.”

As he applauded Rennie’s tenure at the LNBA, the Justice Minister described his contributions as “indelible marks that will inspire future generations of lawyers.”

The CCRB announced that its findings will be made public at a later date, ensuring transparency in addressing the tragedy that deeply impacted Kinjor’s community.
