The Institute for Educational and Career Development (IECD) recently concluded a two-day communication workshop for Public Relation Officers (PROs) from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutes in Liberia.
The workshop aimed to enhance the PROs’ communication skills and strategies in order to effectively promote their respective institutions and programs.
The exercise which was held under the STRIVE Project on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week trained PROs from Montserrado, Grand Bassa and Margibi Counties.
The training which took place at the IECD headquarters in Monrovia, brought together PROs from various TVET institutes, including Maryann Chesman Vocational School, Monrovia Vocational Training Center (MVTC), Booker Washington Institute (BWI), Business and Domestic Occupational Training Center (BDOTC), and the Accelerated Vocational Training Program (AVTP).
Participants engaged in interactive sessions and group activities that focused on key aspects of communication such as public speaking, media relations, social media marketing, and crisis communication.
IECD’s Country Director, Guillaume Desjonguerres, emphasized the importance of effective communication for TVET institutions in order to attract students, partners, and funding opportunities.
“PROs play a crucial role in shaping the public perception of their institutions, and it is essential for them to have the skills and tools to effectively communicate their messages,” Mr. Guillaume Desjonguerres stated.
Throughout the workshop, participants had the opportunity to learn from industry experts and engage in hands-on exercises to practice their communication techniques. Guest speakers from leading PR agencies and media outlets shared insights on best communication practices and provided valuable feedback to help PROs improve their skills.
Campaigners Against Misinformation and Disinformation (CAMDL) Executive Director, Taweh Johnson, presented on crisis, reputation, and issue management of TVET image.
Meanwhile, Benedict T. Diyao, the PRO from MVTC, shared his experience from the workshop, saying, “I have gained valuable insights and practical tips that will help me better communicate with our stakeholders and promote our training programs. I am excited to implement what I have learned and contribute to the success of my institution.”
At the conclusion of the workshop, certificates were awarded to all participants in recognition of their commitment to professional development. The PROs expressed their gratitude to IECD for organizing such a valuable training program and expressed their eagerness to apply their new skills in their respective roles.
Overall, the IECD Communication Workshop for TVET PROs was a resounding success, equipping participants with the knowledge and tools to enhance communication strategies and promote their institutions effectively.
The workshop is a testament to IECD’s commitment to supporting TVET institutes in Liberia and strengthening the vocational education sector.
