Monrovia, Liberia — Relief is coming to drivers and commuters. The Liberian Government has announced a US$0.10 cut in the price of gasoline, effective Wednesday, August 5.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in consultation with the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company, LPRC, said the new price ceiling was approved following a review of global market trends and the exchange rate.
Under the new structure, gasoline will sell at a wholesale price of US$4.70 per gallon. The maximum retail pump price is now US$4.98 per gallon, or L$910 Liberian dollars.
The price of fuel oil remains unchanged. Wholesale stays at US$5.77 per gallon, with retail capped at US$6.05 per gallon, or L$1,105 Liberian dollars. Officials said the adjustment is based on the Central Bank of Liberia’s exchange rate of L$182.32 to US$1.00 published on August 1, 2026.
To ensure compliance, the Commerce Ministry said its Inspectorate Team, working with LPRC, will begin nationwide monitoring on Wednesday. The Ministry vowed to crack down on gas stations and marketers who sell above the approved price and warned that violators will face penalties.
