“Government Condemns Security Forces Clash” – Minister Piah Assures Public of Stability

Monrovia, Liberia – The Government of Liberia has strongly condemned the violent altercation between elements of the Liberia National Police (LNP) and the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) that took place on Wednesday.

Following an emergency meeting of the Joint Security Committee, Minister of Information, Cultural Affairs & Tourism, Jerolinmek Matthew Piah, reassured the public that “the Government will do everything within its power to prevent a recurrence.”

The scuffle, described as an “unfortunate and embarrassing incident,” has prompted a full-scale investigation. According to a release from the ministry of information, the committee has vowed to hold those responsible accountable. Meanwhile, senior security officials visited health centers to assess the conditions of those injured in the incident.

Eye witnesses account that the AFL soldiers allegedly attacked police officers aimed at retaliating an alleged attack against one of its members who was manhandled over the weekend for reportedly violating traffic rules.

Despite the clash, the government has assured citizens that the country remains stable and that security forces have recommitted themselves to maintaining peace and public confidence.
