Monrovia, Liberia — Former Foreign Affairs Minister Olubanke King Akerele has accused former President George Weah of inciting violence in Liberia. This accusation follows a violent clash on August 22, 2024, between the Liberia National Police and supporters of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC). The confrontation disrupted business and movement in the city for several hours.

Speaking on Liberia’s 177th National Flag Day, Madam Akerele called for a thorough investigation into the incident involving the CDC. She criticized Speaker Koffa for not investigating the origins of the violence before arriving at the scene.

While condemning the actions of the CDC supporters, Madam Akerele urged the Unity Party government to conduct a fair and impartial investigation into the riot.
