Eleven in Custody After Woman Assaulted in Viral Red Light Attack

Monrovia, Liberia – Police have detained eleven people in connection with the public assault of a young woman in the Red Light commercial district on Wednesday, May 7, 2026, an incident that triggered widespread public condemnation after footage of the attack spread online.

The Liberia National Police said the arrests were made following a fast-tracked investigation initiated once videos showing the victim being forcibly undressed and attacked by a group surfaced and drew national outrage.

Authorities confirmed that all eleven suspects are currently being held while investigators work to identify other individuals involved and establish a motive for the assault.

In a statement, the LNP described the incident as criminal, dehumanizing, and unacceptable. Police assured the public that further arrests are anticipated as the investigation progresses.
