Monrovia, Liberia — Representative Moima Briggs Mensah of Bong County’s District #6 has announced her withdrawal of support from the Pro-Koffa bloc, vowing to remain neutral amidst the ongoing political conflict in the Legislature. The move marks a significant shift in the already volatile political atmosphere at the Capitol Hill.

Speaking candidly about her decision, Representative Mensah cited concerns over the leadership of Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa, accusing him of losing the moral authority and impartiality essential for effectively leading the 55th Legislature. “The Speaker’s inability to unite the legislative body has hindered the smooth conduct of the people’s business,” she stated, underlining the challenges faced in the Legislature’s functioning under Koffa’s leadership.

With a firm stance, Mensah declared her commitment to working from her office and serving her constituents in Bong County. “While I pray for divine intervention to guide us all, I remain steadfast in my commitment to return to our constitutional sessions once we are in the appropriate sitting location and under a duly recognized presiding officer,” she emphasized.

Although previously aligned with the majority bloc, Mensah has now distanced herself, describing their actions as illegal and unconstitutional. Her refusal to join them stems from her belief that doing so would imply an endorsement of their actions. “Political sustainability is built on integrity,” she asserted, reaffirming her commitment to preserving her values during this critical period in Liberian politics.

In her remarks, the representative also criticized former President George Weah for what she perceives as his failure to engage lawmakers effectively. “The opportunity to bring the lawmakers on board was lost under his leadership,” she lamented, further underscoring the rift between different political factions.

Mensah, known for her principled leadership, used the occasion to call for unity and dialogue among lawmakers. She urged her colleagues in the House of Representatives to prioritize dialogue, reconciliation, and respect for the Constitution, emphasizing the need for peace and stability in the legislative process.

As the political landscape in Liberia remains fraught with tension, Mensah’s neutral stance could have far-reaching implications, potentially influencing the direction of future legislative actions. Her dedication to upholding the rule of law and maintaining her integrity offers a beacon of hope for those seeking a return to democratic principles and constitutional order.
