Monrovia, Liberia – In a significant move to strengthen Liberia’s diplomatic presence globally, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has nominated a slate of new ambassadors to represent the country at several key foreign missions. The appointments, announced on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, span across Liberia’s embassies and permanent mission in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Japan, Kuwait, Qatar, Senegal, Morocco, Ghana, and the United Nations in New York.
The following individuals have been nominated:
- Al Hassan Conteh – Ambassador Designate to the United States of America
- Genevieve Kennedy – Ambassador Designate to the United Kingdom
- Teeko Yorlay – Ambassador Designate to France
- Edward Appleton– Ambassador Designate to Japan
- Brahima Kaba– Ambassador Designate to Kuwait
- Mohammed Kanneh– Ambassador Designate to Qatar
- Ali Sylla – Ambassador Designate to Senegal
- Joseph Johnson – Ambassador Designate to Morocco
- Musu J. Ruhle – Ambassador Designate to Ghana
- Lewis Brown – Ambassador Designate to Liberia’s Permanent Mission in New York
In a statement, President Boakai underscored that these appointments were made with a view to enhancing Liberia’s diplomatic relations and global standing. He also emphasized that the appointments are subject to confirmation by the Liberian Senate.
“These individuals have demonstrated the professionalism, integrity, and commitment necessary to represent Liberia’s interests abroad,” President Boakai said. “I am confident that they will continue to serve with dedication, loyalty, and a focus on strengthening Liberia’s international partnerships.”
The President also mentioned that further appointments would be announced once the necessary diplomatic agréments (official approvals) are received from the respective host countries.
As part of his message, President Boakai reiterated his expectation that appointed officials would continue to uphold the values of diligence, integrity, and professionalism in their diplomatic service.
The newly nominated ambassadors now await confirmation by the Senate of Liberia before assuming their official roles.
