ArcelorMittal Liberia was honored with four prestigious awards at the Liberia Revenue Authority’s (LRA) annual Taxpayers Appreciation & Awards ceremony held in Monrovia. The company was celebrated for its outstanding contributions to the country’s economy during the 2022-2023 fiscal year.

ArcelorMittal Liberia was named the ‘Highest Contributor Overall for 2022’ and the ‘Second Highest Contributor Overall for 2023,’ highlighting its critical role in driving national revenue. The company also received the distinction of ‘Highest Custom Duty Paying Concessionaire for both 2022 and 2023,’ underscoring its substantial contributions to Liberia’s economic growth.

This recognition is a testament to ArcelorMittal Liberia’s continued commitment to fiscal responsibility and its positive impact on Liberia’s national development. The awards build on the company’s solid track record, as it previously earned the Gold Award for the highest taxpayer in the country for three consecutive years.

At the awards ceremony, LRA officials lauded ArcelorMittal Liberia for its exemplary tax compliance practices and its ongoing support of the national treasury. The LRA emphasized that these awards not only celebrate the company’s financial contributions but also serve as an example for other businesses to prioritize tax compliance, which is essential for the country’s economic progress.

Representatives from ArcelorMittal Liberia, including Marcus S. Wleh, Head of Sustainability and External Relations, and Finance Manager Dorbor Kpangbala, accepted the awards on behalf of the company. Wleh expressed gratitude to the Liberian government for fostering a business-friendly environment that enables companies like ArcelorMittal Liberia to thrive. He acknowledged that the company’s ability to contribute significantly to national revenue is closely tied to the supportive policies and infrastructure provided by the government.

“We believe that without the enabling environment provided by the government, it would be difficult for businesses to generate the revenues that allow us to contribute to the country’s development,” Wleh said in his remarks.

He also extended his thanks to the people of Liberia, particularly the host communities, for their support, and acknowledged the company’s workforce for their integral role in the company’s success.

The LRA’s annual Taxpayers Appreciation & Awards Dinner serves as an important platform to recognize businesses and individuals who make significant contributions to Liberia’s revenue generation efforts. As the country faces ongoing economic challenges, the recognition of companies like ArcelorMittal Liberia underscores the importance of corporate responsibility and the vital role the private sector plays in supporting national development initiatives.
