NIMBA COUNTY, Liberia — The Joint Security in Nimba County, led by the Liberia National Police (LNP), has arrested twenty-three persons for their alleged involvement in the illegal possession and discharge of firearms in communities within the Tappita District.
According to authorities, the arrests followed complaints from residents of New Toe’s Town and Unification Town, who reported that a group of unidentified men had allegedly been seen hiding in nearby bushes while discharging single-barrel guns. Community members claimed the suspects were killing cattle and taking away belongings from residents.
Following the reports, the Joint Security convened an emergency meeting to review the situation and subsequently resolved to launch an immediate fact-finding operation in the affected areas.
Security personnel later moved into the communities and successfully apprehended twenty-three suspects believed to be connected to the alleged incidents.
During the operation, officers recovered several items believed to have been used in the reported activities. The confiscated items included ten single-barrel guns, eight cutlasses, and five empty gun shells.
Authorities say the suspects are currently in police custody as investigators work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged acts.
The Liberia National Police has assured residents of Tappita District and surrounding communities that it remains committed to maintaining peace and protecting lives and property.
Police officials also emphasized that anyone found in violation of the law will be held accountable in keeping with Liberia’s legal framework.
Meanwhile, the police are encouraging citizens to continue cooperating with security authorities by reporting suspicious activities within their communities.
The statement was issued by Sam K. Collins, Deputy Commissioner of Police and Chief of Press and Public Affairs at the Liberia National Police.
