Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) has received a significant boost in its environmental protection efforts following the donation of modern office and field equipment valued at USD 33,000 from Conservation International (CI).

‎The donation, presented on Tuesday in Monrovia, includes laptops, GPS devices, cameras, and desktop computers—tools expected to strengthen LiMA’s Environmental Department in carrying out its monitoring and data collection responsibilities.

‎During the presentation ceremony, Conservation International’s Country Director, Mr. Momodu Michael Kemokai, said the donation forms part of CI’s continued commitment to supporting sustainable environmental management and marine ecosystem protection in Liberia.

‎He explained that the initiative is implemented under the Global Environment Facility (GEF)-funded Natural Capital Accounting Project, which provides a USD 36,000 income grant to improve environmental data collection and analysis for more informed decision-making.

‎“This support is intended to enhance LiMA’s capacity in monitoring and protecting Liberia’s marine and coastal ecosystems,” Mr. Kemokai emphasized.

‎Receiving the donation on behalf of LiMA, Mr. Bohmensahn Yuan, Director of Marine Environmental Protection, expressed appreciation to CI for what he described as a timely and meaningful contribution. He said the equipment donation reflects the strong partnership between the two institutions, which share a vision for a sustainable and well-managed marine environment.

‎“This collaboration demonstrates our joint determination to ensure that Liberia’s marine and coastal resources are preserved for both present and future generations,” Mr. Yuan remarked.

‎Also speaking at the event, Mr. John F. Harvey, Deputy Commissioner for Domestic Vessel Registration and Safety, thanked Conservation International for the donation and assured that the items would be used effectively for their intended purpose.

‎“We are grateful for this valuable support and reaffirm our commitment to utilizing these tools in advancing LiMA’s environmental protection and maritime safety objectives,” he said.

‎LiMA reiterated its commitment to strengthening partnerships with both local and international stakeholders in promoting sustainable maritime governance, protecting the environment, and responsibly managing Liberia’s blue economy for long-term national benefit.
