Monrovia, Liberia – In a significant development, Liberia’s National Election Commission (NEC) has officially confirmed the arrival of crucial election materials, including ballot boxes, marking the beginning of preparations for the eagerly anticipated October 10, 2023, general elections. The NEC, in a press statement released on September 13, 2023, extended assurance to electoral stakeholders that these vital materials are now being securely stored in the NEC Central Warehouse, located at its headquarters in Sinkor Monrovia.
The NEC’s commitment to a well-organized electoral process is further exemplified by its reception of mock (sample) ballots for all election categories, encompassing the presidential, senate, and house of representatives races. Additionally, the commission has received tactile ballot guides designed to assist visually impaired voters, as well as an array of stationery materials indispensable for conducting a smooth and fair election. The press statement also emphasizes that more materials are expected to arrive shortly, underscoring the NEC’s unwavering dedication to a transparent and inclusive electoral process.
As part of its civic and voter education efforts, the NEC has undertaken the production and distribution of “Know Your Candidates” posters, an initiative aimed at empowering voters with vital information. Furthermore, the meticulous packaging of training materials for the October 10, 2023 General Elections commenced on September 11, 2023, at the NEC Central Warehouse. The NEC is leaving no stone unturned, with the training of Trainers (ToT) for magisterial staff set to commence on September 13, 2023, at the NEC Headquarters. These meticulous preparations underscore the NEC’s commitment to ensuring a fair and well-organized electoral process for the benefit of all Liberian citizens.
