Monrovia, Liberia – The establishment of War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia gains weight, as high-level delegation from the U.S. government is currently in Liberia from September to enhance collaboration in the justice sector and support the establishment of a War & Economic Crimes Court.
The interagency group includes representatives from the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Global Criminal Justice, Homeland Security Investigations, the Department of Justice, and the FBI.
The US Embassy in Monrovia in a release disclosed that During their visit, the delegation will engage with Liberian government officials, law enforcement, and civil society to share insights on prosecuting complex cases in a trauma-informed and victim-centric manner.
This initiative aims to bolster Liberia’s commitment to justice and accountability in the wake of past atrocities.
Ambassador-at-Large for Global Criminal Justice, Beth Van Schaack, emphasized the U.S. support, stating, “We commend Liberia’s commitment to build a War and Economic Crimes Court… We hope this visit will be the start of a productive relationship.”
The delegation’s activities aim to forge strong partnerships and facilitate knowledge exchange, marking a significant step in U.S.-Liberian relations focused on justice reform.
