Kolahun, LOfa Co. – Mamai Konneh, a 25-year-old mother from Sovasu town, was tragically found dead in the Kaha River on August 17, 2024. She had been missing since August 15, and her body was discovered by her family.

Mamai had been struggling with her health, both mental and physical, after giving birth to her baby three months ago. At the scene, a single slipper suggested she had been near the river.

A local jury, led by a community dweller T. Fofee Konneh, decided that Mamai’s death was not caused by foul play but by drowning.

The Liberia National Police Department in Kolahun helped with the investigation and eventually returned Mamai’s body to her family for burial. They are continuing to look into the details surrounding her death.

Mamai’s family is now asking for help from the government and other organizations to care for her three-month-old baby.

The community is deeply affected by this loss, and the Kolahun District Commissioner, Joseph K. Yarkoi, has offered his condolences.

He has also promised to support the family and ensure a thorough investigation into what happened. This sad event highlights the need for better mental health support and community resources.
