Chief Dowah replaces Zanzan Karwor as Chairperson of the National council of Chiefs; vows to restore Liberia’s cultural norms and values

At long last, the National council of Chiefs of Liberia have inducted New corps of officers to stair the affairs of the institution for the next two years.

Others elected are Paramount Chief Ballah Gbotorlu from Lofa County National Vice Chair for Culture and Traditional Affairs, and female Paramount Chief Rhoda Garmu of Grand Gedeh County who takes on the role of National Vice Chairperson for Peacebuilding and Reconciliation.

The induction ceremony held at the EJS’s ministerial complex followed a weeklong gathering of Chiefs and elders in Gompa, Nimba county which was climaxed by the elections of new bread of officials.

Internal Affairs Minister Francis Nyumalin presented the 45 paramount chiefs from across the fifteen counties to the Liberian chief Executive.

He noted that the leadership is in fulfillment of Chapter three of the Local Government Act of 2018 signed by former President George Weah in September, 2018.

The law, among other things repealed the Act that created the National Traditional Council headed by Chief Zarzar Karwor, and its instead established a National Council of Chiefs.

In remarks , President Joseph Nyumah Boakai extolled the National Traditional council of Liberia for the peaceful conduct of the elections.

The Liberian Leader recounted the contributions being made by the Transitional council by keeping the peace and tranquility among chiefs and elders. The president vowed to work with the National council of Chiefs under the stewardship of Chief Dowah stating ” we won’t induct and abandon you, we will work with you to ensure our cultural values are restored” President Boakai exclaimed.

The Liberian chief executive at the same time reminded members of the local government that his administration is keen on combating corruptions and eradicating the culture of impunity stressing in affirmative that his government is committed to holding public officials accountable for their actions.

For his part, the Head of the National Council of Chiefs, Boinsein Chiefdom Paramount chief Arthur Dowah have pledged the council’s support in working closely with the Boakai-Koung’s administration in moving the country Forward.

Chief Dowah stated that the tradition and culture of Liberia has declined due to lack of respect for leaders of the Country.

The Chiefs Council chair however vowed to restore the cultural values and respectability of the traditions in the country and make sure the nation returns to it’s quality days greater respect and cultural upbringings.

Chief Dowah comes to the post with a wealth of experience and dedication to serving his community.
