LINGO Forum Wants Smooth Partnership With Boakai’s Administration to Restore Donors Confidence

Sinkor, Monrovia–The Liberia International Nongovernmental Organizations Forum (LINGO) is dedicated to forging a strong partnership with President Boakai’s administration to enhance collaboration and address challenges encountered by both local and international NGOs. Established in 1997 in Liberia, LINGO is guided by the principles of Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Accountability, and Building Local Capacities.

In an exclusive interview, LINGO Chair Mrs. Aisha Lai expressed optimism about collaborating with the new government to tackle issues that arose during the previous administration, such as the obstacles faced by NGOs in legally operating in Liberia due to cumbersome administrative processes. She also highlighted the decline in international NGOs and the lack of donor confidence, underscoring the importance of seamless partnerships to ensure NGOs work closely with development partners, the Government of Liberia, and donors to overcome these challenges.

Before the civil crisis, Liberia was home to 154 international NGOs, but the number has decreased to around 54 due to factors like corruption, global trends, and donor fatigue. Mrs. Lai stressed the significance of involving NGOs in policy-making to leverage their expertise in development endeavors.

During a recent meeting with the President, LINGO conveyed the INGO community’s optimism that fostering a collaborative environment can attract private and donor investments to combat poverty and promote sustainable development in Liberia. Initiatives are being implemented to facilitate dialogue between the government and NGOs to address common issues and work towards shared objectives.
