Palestine Sector at Arab League Welcomes Nasser International Forum Founder on Sidelines of Genocide Victims Commemoration

CAIRO, Egypt – The Palestine and the Occupied Arab Territories Sector at the League of Arab States welcomed Anthropologist Hassan Ali Ghazaly, Founder of the Nasser International Forum, during a solemn commemoration held at the League’s Secretariat in Cairo.

The meeting took place on Sunday, October 18, 2026, on the sidelines of a high-level event to commemorate the victims of what the League described as the crime of genocide perpetrated by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people, particularly in the Gaza Strip.

The commemoration was held pursuant to a resolution adopted by the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, designating October 17 of each year as a day to honor the victims. The initiative, according to organizers, seeks to preserve Palestinian collective memory, document violations, push for justice and accountability, and reaffirm the commitment to protecting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

Ghazaly met with Ambassador Dr. Fayed Mostafa, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and Head of the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector, and Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Nawal Al-Arabi.

During the exchange, Ghazaly thanked the Palestine Sector for its invitation and warm reception, and commended its statement at the event which captured the suffering of victims of settlement expansion, occupation and genocide.

In a deeply personal moment, Ambassador Dr. Mostafa shared his family’s historical connection to the late Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser. He revealed that out of admiration for President Nasser and pride in the July 1952 Revolution, his father deliberately registered July 23 – the anniversary of the Revolution – as the official birth date for both him and his brother.

The gesture, he explained, was to keep the Revolution alive in the national and Arab consciousness and to affirm the Palestinian cause as the central cause of the Arab nation.

Ambassador Mostafa also expressed profound gratitude to Egypt – its government, people and leadership – for its steadfast support for the Palestinian cause.

On the margins of the same event, Ghazaly also held talks with Ambassador Zaid Al-Sabban, Director of the Sudan and Horn of Africa Department at the League Secretariat and the League’s representative to the mechanism concerned with regional issues.

Their discussion moved beyond politics into culture, focusing on the power of literature and cinema in shaping collective awareness and strengthening ties among Arab peoples. They exchanged views on the Arab cultural landscape, prominent writers, and the role of culture as a bridge connecting Arab societies.

The commemoration itself featured official statements from the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, the President of the Arab Parliament, and the Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine. The statements focused on the dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, calling for unimpeded humanitarian aid, protection of civilians, a ceasefire, reconstruction efforts, and accountability for crimes committed.

The program also included moving humanitarian testimonies from representatives of the medical, media and social sectors, a documentary film documenting violations in Gaza, and the inauguration of an art exhibition titled “Ahwal” (Horrors) featuring works by Palestinian artists portraying the humanitarian tragedy.

The participation of the Nasser International Forum, organizers said, reaffirms its commitment to Arab and humanitarian causes and to keeping the Palestinian cause at the forefront of regional and international attention, and its support for the Palestinian people’s right to freedom, self-determination and the establishment of its independent state.
