Monrovia, Liberia — A suspended member of the Congress for Democratic Change says the party is on the brink of a major fallout, after he was removed from the Headquarters Construction Committee amid questions over US$50,000 reportedly allocated for the building project.
The warning came from Abraham Askie, who was indefinitely suspended by the CDC on July 1, 2026, and removed from the Building Construction Committee. In a letter from the Office of the National Chairman, the party cited violations of its Code of Conduct, including alleged treachery, creating division, and acting in collaboration with anti-CDC forces. Askie was also barred from all CDC chat rooms, with Ms. Gertrude J. D. Williams named to replace him on the committee.
Responding to the action, Askie issued a strongly worded statement signaling further revelations. He referenced the US$50,000 accountability issue, described the suspension letter as coming from a “Lilliputian,” and alluded to an expulsion letter and an unexpected fight, concluding that “something is about to explode.”
Askie escalated the dispute with a separate allegation that CDC National Chairman Atty. Janga A. Kowo received US$50,000 to arrange for Alternative National Congress Political Leader Alexander Cummings to speak at the party’s recent anniversary, and that the funds remain unaccounted for.
As of publication, no independent evidence has been made public to support Askie’s claims, and the CDC leadership has not issued an official response to the allegations. The dispute has intensified internal debate within the party as it seeks to consolidate opposition unity ahead of the 2029 elections, while questions over transparency and internal accountability remain unresolved.
