Monrovia – Days after the Armed Forces of Liberia opened new recruitment, National Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Geraldine Janet George, Rtd., kicked off a nationwide inspection of AFL barracks on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. The first stop was Edward Binyah Kesselly Barracks in Schiefflin, Margibi County.

The goal of the tour is to check on troop welfare, living standards, and overall mission readiness. Minister George wants direct insight into the day-to-day challenges facing soldiers and their families nationwide.

During the visit, she met with base commanders, officers, NCOs, and enlisted personnel. The assessment covered housing conditions, medical care, sanitation, water and power access, schooling for military dependents, infrastructure, logistics, troop morale, and how prepared units are for operations.

Minister George stressed that soldier welfare is a top national priority. She said troops deserve decent housing, proper support, and chances to grow professionally as they work to protect Liberia’s peace, sovereignty, and borders.

This nationwide review shows the Ministry’s push to build a modern, professional, disciplined, and combat-ready AFL. Information gathered will be put into a full report to guide government action on upgrading military facilities, improving troop welfare, and boosting operational capacity.

The Ministry of National Defense says it remains committed to transparency, accountability, and steadily improving conditions for service members and their families.
